Suffering
Life brings challenges and suffering. As followers of Jesus we ought not run away from suffering.
When praying for hard situations in our life, we often ask God to "help us through." It is just as important to ask God to "TEACH US through the suffering."
God, what do you want me to learn from you in the midst of this? Lord, how can I grow more and more into the likeness of who you are - through this trial? God....teach me and show me.
We need a balance of Psalm 91 and James 1 in the midst of challenges and suffering:
-
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Psalm. 91
-
Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials of many kinds; because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1.
My prayer today for Haiti:
Lord, thank you for the trials, challenges and suffering in our lives. Help us through them and teach us through them. We pray for Haiti today that they find you as their Refuge and Fortress. Amen
