The Cassange Story - Part 4 - Spiritual Awakening and Infrastructure

Each month we share more of the story about God’s goodness in the village of Cassange. He took this place of darkness and has turned it into a beacon of light for the country of Haiti. 

This month we are highlighting additional spiritual changes and investment strategy into the communities.  The marriage ministry helped create a more stable community according to God’s plan. You may remember that there were no married couples in Cassange. Not only was no one married, but the family structure was a wreck, and there were no committed monogamous relationships. A parent may have had 10-12 children, with 10-12 different people. It was a rarity for the people in this village to even see a married couple.  It is impossible to have stable community and families in that kind of environment. As the gospel began spreading, and people started committing their lives to the Lord, marriage was elevated as an important step of commitment. To date, Pastor and Madam Bazile have married over 80 couples in this village. 

Our day-to-day ministry includes addressing the physical needs and disasters that have plagued Haiti for many years.  Some of the key events that you may have heard about include hurricanes and earthquakes.  Since the founding of Mission E4 we have faced three back-to-back hurricanes in 2007, the 2010 earthquake, Hurricane Matthew in 2018, and more. Beyond meeting the needs of the villages, a serving spirit of helping others across Haiti has been fostered.  Mission E4 has a methodology and heart for giving that encourages the church and community to reach out and help others in need.  We are careful to keep investments and resources localized. That includes important practices such as purchasing materials from local vendors rather than importing goods whenever possible.  We find that doing this has kept suppliers in business, helped new businesses to open, and also stimulated the economy so that more people can be employed. We have seen this take place in and around Cassange, bringing hope and positive change. Through our disaster response work, Mission E4 has built/repaired hundreds of houses, improved sanitation in several villages, and provided food to not only our school children, but their families as well. 

After the earthquake in particular, a revival broke out in the country of Haiti that continues to this day. People are leaving behind their old ways of voodoo and making the decision to follow Jesus. Their lives are changing. The villages are changing. God is moving in amazing ways. A new generation is growing up in a primarily Christian community, with stable families, whose parents who are educated and employed.
